Finding The Way Home

Have you ever lost a pet?  One second and they can slip out the door, under the fence or off the leash - and they are gone.  Panic sets in, and you run or drive frantically through the neighborhood, praying and hoping that they are safe and you will see them soon.

Maybe they have an ID tag - perfect!  The Good Samaritan who finds them calls, and you are reunited!  But, you had removed their collar because they don't wear it in the house or they slipped it when they got off the leash - they have no tag.  How will you find your pet?

You call all the local vet hospitals, the local police department, the local animal shelter/animal control, the radio station - alert everyone that you have lost your pet.

Then, you remember they are microchipped!  The Good Samaritan who finds them takes them to a shelter or vet who has the reader, and your phone rings.  Back home!

If your pet isn't microchipped, there is a good possibility they won't find their way home.  The link below has information on microchipping - it is the best way to keep your pet safe if they are ever separated from you.

*One more suggestion - have a current picture of your pet.  Animal shelters/animal control may request those for proof of ownership!
