Senior Dog Prayer

 Now I lay me down to sleep,
at my foster parents' feet.
Dear Heavenly Dog Father, hear my prayer,
I'm a senior dog and it seems so unfair.
We've been discarded and left behind.
So many seniors have been declined.
Our lives are not over, we have much more to give.
We can still play, cuddle, love and even forgive.
Will you find us loving families unafraid?
Those special ones that just can't be swayed,
by all those youngsters on every rescue page.
The wise ones that will not judge us by our age.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray this prayer for all senior dogs' sake.

A Good Exercise Pal

Hedrick Knows The Rules

 This is Hedrick, and he follows all of The Humane Society "house rules".  Please note that he isn't on a couch; he has never begged for a treat (this doesn't include any treat offered by a volunteer or Linda); he isn't the resident "doorbell" barker; and he is always patient.  Always.   

That is all in fun because Hedrick is a very sweet boy!  He is very bouncy and will chase his ball and squeaker toy forever!  He enjoys sitting on your lap and getting kisses.  He hilariously lays on the floor with his legs straight out behind him and stomach flat on the floor, like he's doing a yoga pose!

Mommy and Sissy

 This sweet duo are Mommy and Sissy.  Mommy arrived to The Humane Society with her very young puppies; Sissy is one of the surviving puppies.  They are a bonded pair - they are each other's shadow - and will need to be adopted together. Mommy and Sissy are Corgi mixes; Mommy is about 4 years old and Sissy is 2 years old.  Both are sweet little ladies who get along well with other dogs.  They do have separation anxiety and prefer a home where they aren't left alone.  They will need to be crated when they need to be left alone.

SMILE!

 When you visit The Lawrence County Humane Society, you are on camera!  That's right - The Humane Society has video recording cameras throughout the facility, including the pole barn.  

Unfortunately, those cameras have recently caught some disturbing activity.  

The Humane Society is funded solely by donations from our generous community members.  We receive NO funding from the government, state or county.  We rely on EVERY penny we get to pay utilities, veterinary bills, food costs, facility upkeep, and supplies.  All of the animals' care, the upkeep of the facility and the daily tasks are provided by volunteers - there are no paid employees.  We meet so many kind and loving people in this community, people who love animals and help us support our mission.  

Unfortunately, there are also those in the community who will steal from The Humane Society and take away from the care that the animals receive.  So, back to those cameras!  They DO record, they DO have excellent quality (so good you can see license plates!), they DO shoot from different angles, and thieves WILL be prosecuted.  

And, honestly, stealing from a non-profit animal shelter just makes you a jerk.

 This little guy is dressed in a classy, gray "Tuxedo"!  He is about 6 months old and needs a family to help him grow into his perfect self!

 This is Ready, and he is ALWAYS dressed for Fall!  Look at that pretty orange coat!  This big fellow is about 4 years old.  He is hoping to have a home for the Holidays!

 This is Airport!  As you might guess, Airport was found at the Mid America Airport.  She's around 7 years old.  Airport is a little shy, but she warms up quickly!  She would prefer to be the only pet, and she needs a home without children.  But look at the Attitude!

Melody is about a year old; she loves to cuddle!  She got her cute name because, when she purrs, it sounds like she's singing!

ER is about 2 years old and also loves to cuddle!  Why is his name "ER" you ask? Well, he showed up at the hospital and wanted to come inside!  

Both of these cuties are hoping for new families that will give them snuggles for life!

 That's Bud's philosophy!  Bud lost an eye, but that doesn't stop this friendly, 5-year old guy from living his best life!  Due to his eyesight, Bud must be an indoor cat only for his safety.  You won't mind - more snuggles and purrs!
